Frequently Asked Questions

What is a clinical Psychologist?

Clinical Psychologists are highly trained mental health professionals who conduct counseling and psychotherapy sessions with clients. Licensing requirements vary by state, but typically to be a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, one must earn a doctorate in psychology, (PhD or PsyD), complete 2-3 years of post-graduate training in the diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorders, and meet other rigorous qualifications to become licensed in the specific state in which he or she will practice.

Do you accept insurance?

Dr. Gabris does NOT accept insurance; she is considered an out of network provider for all insurances. She accepts Venno and Zelle payment options.

What do I need to be able to do telehealth sessions?

All you need is a private, comfortable space; good Internet access; and a device with a camera (hands-free is preferred, so we recommend a computer or tripod device if using a phone).

Why do you only offer online therapy?

Dr. Gabris loves the flexibility that Telehealth offers clients. Online therapy eliminates a lot of logistical, practical, emotional, and financial barriers to pursuing counseling. Online therapy allows you to receive expert care not limited by your geographic location. You get to engage in counseling from a location that’s convenient and feels safe for you, with no time wasted commuting to an office, getting stuck in traffic, getting lost on your way, or sitting in an awkward waiting room. Flexible scheduling, making the most of your time, seeing a counselor outside of your local area - these are just a few of the many benefits to online therapy! I recognize telehealth is not for everyone, however, and respect your choice for in-person psychotherapy if that is what is best for you or your family.

Is Telehealth therapy safe?

There are potential risks and potential benefits to engaging in any type of therapy, whether in person or virtually. The risks associated with online therapy are simply different than in person. You are responsible for maintaining privacy in your own environment. Dr. Gabris values your privacy and confidentiality, and uses a Telehealth platform that meets HIPAA-compliant standards. Dr. Gabris uses a secure messaging portal to communicate with clients, and adhere to all state laws and professional ethics to provide you with the highest quality, confidential therapy.

Can you do phone sessions?

Yes, if that is what you prefer.

Can you do therapy sessions while I’m driving?

For your safety, Dr. Gabris does not allow clients to engage in therapy while on the road. However, we have lots of folks who prefer to do therapy from a parked vehicle at a favorite park or other safe location.

How long will I be in therapy?

How long you’re in therapy depends on what your goals are, your personal history, what form of treatment we’re using, and what you’re doing outside of the therapy hour to reinforce our work together. Some clients are with Dr. Gabris for only a few sessions and feel as though they’ve met their goals, others work with Dr. Gabris for months or years. There is no one-size-fits-all agenda for your therapy; Dr. Gabris develops individualized treatment plans for all of her clients.
